This book is a must read for anyone who has a loved one who suffers from a brain injury. It is a story of an auto accident which caused sever injury to the author just 10 years ago. It is almost like reading a thriller because of the smooth way she tells the tale. You want to know what happens next so you just keep reading. Several lawyers, doctors, and Insurance Companies would prefer to suppress this book.The hospital released the two in the totaled SUV in less than an hour. That is the beginning of the inept medical care which sadly continues for years. The symptoms of a brain injury are clearly delineated. The various medical tests given to the patient are also explained. There were tests that I was even unaware of even though I have had many years experience teaching Special Education students who suffered from similar injuries, either at birth or due to accidents. Kindle is a very good option but I would highly recommend you buy the paper book. This is because it is an excellent reference book you will find yourself going back to for the tips and information that will be very useful. This book is full of information and lists websites that will be very helpful.
But the big bonus of this book is the revealing of the very unhealthy games the Insurance companies, doctors, and lawyers play. It is simple GREED! These games are certainly not conducive to your healing process. But when you have fore-knowledge of their games you have a better chance of staying alive. The author knew she had trouble with her memory so she kept a log of everything that was said during a doctor or therapy visit. She also kept a record of any conversation with any agent of the Insurance company and the various lawyers she encountered. She even takes you through a deposition and exposed the tricks pulled. The good news is she had some EXCELLENT doctors and lawyers who truly care and helped her heal. Be alert not all are created equal in skill or caring.
This book would be useful for anyone who has to deal with an Insurance Company or Lawyer due to any kind of accident. She even lists the unethical practices of certain Insurance Companies. The lawyers have their slang for the various Insurance Companies because they deal with them often while you may have only one encounter. She also lists the Insurance Companies that are known for their high standards of ethics. The price of the book is worth that list alone. The author has performed a service to our society for this expose. She has done very good work!

This is a well told tale of the struggles and life changing damage with a brain injury. A personal story that is filled with quotes and references. Valuable information for anyone who has experienced damage from concussion, or for the friends and family, as well as caregivers. I found her story to capture my attention, difficult to put down, most of the way through. Watching children racing down a hill today without helmets on, seeing a shimmy in a bike, just a little faster and there would be a crash, would the head injury be slight, fatal, or life changing, The author points out that crashing a bicycle is one of the leading causes of Traumatic Brain Injury in young people. Do you ride horses, roller skate, or ride bicycles without a helmet. Read this book and you may decide it might be best if you wore a helmet!
